What Indonesian Government do for Indonesia Migrant Workers
The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Manpower and the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI), is undertaking various efforts for prospective migrant workers heading to Europe. These efforts focus on improving human resources quality, opening access to job markets, and providing comprehensive protection.
These efforts include:
· Improving Skills and Competencies: The government organizes vocational training tailored to the European market needs, such as international-certified welding programs required by the global manufacturing industry. This program aims to produce competent and competitive human resources.
· Government-to-Government (G to G) Cooperation: The government explores and implements cooperation schemes between governments to ensure a safe and legal process for job placement, such as the nurse program (Triple Win) for Germany. This scheme minimizes the risks of human trafficking and exploitation.
· Strengthening Job Market Access: The government actively conducts trade missions and bilateral negotiations with European countries to open wider access and job opportunities for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in various sectors.
· Organizing Pre-Departure Orientation (PAP): Prospective PMIs are required to attend the PAP to receive vital information regarding their rights, obligations, and practical knowledge for working and adapting in the destination country.
· Legal Protection and Enforcement: The government strengthens the legal framework, including through Law No. 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, and enhances supervision of the recruitment process by private placement companies (P3MI). Illegal placements are strictly penalized.
· Provision of Integrated Services: BP2MI manages a centralized information system such as SISKOP2MI to facilitate a procedural and transparent migration process and provides complaint services and legal aid if issues arise.
· Focus on Legal Channels: The government continues to educate the public about the importance of using official channels to avoid risks of fraud and exploitation, and to guarantee optimal protection.
